Mike Marran is an attorney who has practiced law in Rhode Island since 1983. He was born and raised in Warwick, and his family spent summers at Roy Carpenters’ Beach here in South Kingstown. He is married to Jennifer (Day) Marran, Pastoral Associate at Christ the King Church in Kingston. Jennifer grew up in Providence, and her family spent summers at Green Hill Beach. Mike and Jen have been married for 37 years, and they moved to South Kingstown in 1992. They have three grown sons, Patrick, Timothy and Sean Marran.
Mike went to Bishop Hendricken High School, Rhode Island College and the University of Connecticut School of Law. During decades of practicing law, Mike has gained experience in civil litigation and appeals, labor and employment law, environmental law and estate planning, among others. He has served as legal counsel to the RI Department of Environmental Management, Hearing Officer for the RI Department of Labor on unemployment benefits appeals, and Consultant to the City of East Providence on personnel matters.

In August, 2021, Mike, along with Carol Vetter, was appointed to the South Kingstown School Committee on a unanimous vote of the Town Council, to fill 2 vacancies that resulted from resignations of prior School Committee members. That term expires in November, 2022. In his time on the School Committee, Mike has advocated for more transparency and data-based decision-making to improve public education, as well as fiscal responsibility. In addition, Mike took on the position of legislative liaison, and Chair of the Buildings sub-committee. Mike has been and is continuing to work on assessing the School Department’s facilities with an eye toward updating facilities.
On June 26, Mike announced his candidacy for the November election for South Kingstown Town Council. He wants to continue improving the overall quality of our schools, address the town’s need for affordable housing and address the coming impacts of climate change on our town.
